Since the release of the Switch last March, the console has managed to amass more than 5 million sales in Japan.
According to Famitsu, the Switch has managed to sell more than 5 million units in Japan since its launch and, to put this figure in perspective, the Wii U has managed only 3.3 million during its existence in Japan .
This figure of 5 million also corresponds to the sales performance of the original Wii in Japan, which is certainly interesting.
Famitsu also provided a useful breakdown of the first five games on the Switch in terms of sales to date and they are:
- Splatoon 2 – 2,621,928 sales
- Super Mario Odyssey – 1,788,228 sales
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 1,738,502 sales
- Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 1,065,780 sales
- Kirby: Star Allies – 591,721 sales
While Zelda: Breath of the Wild was an important launch title for the Switch not only in Japan, but around the world, this is not the most popular game on the system in Japan.
What is surprising is to see a port of the game Wii U, that of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, beat it but that only shows the importance of the multiplayer aspect of the Switch.
Seeing Splatoon 2 supreme reign is interesting because these types of modern shooters are not very popular in Japan, but Splatoon The games offer something different in this respect, with all the gameplay mechanisms based on ink.
