Tumblr has mysteriously disappeared from the Apple App Store, and we do not know why.

The problem was reported for the first time Friday by the technical blog PiunikaWeb, which reported that the application was not working and indicated that some users "could not disable safe mode." As of Sunday, the application was still not available. found in the iOS store. By PiunikaWeb:

By and large, those who had installed the iOS app said they could not search with the failed safe mode, and those who had uninstalled the app for whatever reason complained that the application was not was nowhere on the App Store. So, actually, they lost all access to the application.

According to a blog post on the subject, the company said it's been working to fix the problem since at least Friday. Tumblr said in a statement Sunday that it "continues to work on the problem with the iOS app, which is our number one priority at the moment".

As 9to5 Mac noted, the problem may be related to inappropriate content that violates Apple's guidelines, which has already led Apple to extract applications. The Verge pointed out a Twitter feed this seemed to indicate that inappropriate content was at the heart of the problem.

According to Apple's App Store review guidelines, objectionable content includes "offensive, insensitive, upsetting, intended for disgust or exceptionally bad taste" content. It should be noted that "objectionable content" can, however, be interpreted in different ways. .

To remedy this problem, Digital Trends suggested browsing the Purchased section of the App Store and reinstalling the application from there, which gave mixed results.

Gizmodo has contacted Apple and Tumblr and will update this post if we have any news.
