Zelda Gets Wise!

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is huge. Not just in terms of hype and importance and sales potential, but just in terms of sheer stuff. The Nintendo Switch mascot fighter features over a hundred stages, nearly a thousand songs, and too many Pokemon and items and Assist Trophies to get you started. When you have a lot of big Nintendo franchises, putting them all in one game will make that very big boy indeed.

But the biggest, most exciting thing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is its mind-blowing, heartwarming roster of playable characters. Fighting games themselves are not just the strength of their mechanics but the strength of their fighters, especially in a crossover fighters like this. and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate crushes all rivals by every single playable character from the previous series in the twenty-year-old series. Include the new combatants and so far we have 70 fighters to wrap our heads around. We're excited, but we're also intimidated. So to get ready for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, every day, character by character, we're creating the ultimate guide to all of its characters. Today's fighter: Zelda.

Who are they?

Even though you play as Samus, those games are still called Metroid because of the life-stealing alien parasite. And even though you play as Link, those games are still called The Legend of Zelda Because of the wise and loving Princess Zelda who is also reborn in every new era of Hyrule. Whether she is a pirate or a member of the royal family, Zelda is an integral part of Zelda.

Smash History

Zelda became playable in Super Smash Bros. Melee as the counterpart to Sheik. They remained conjoined in Brawl, too. But since Smash Wii U / 3DS they are now unable to work. This hurt Zelda is the most weak character.

What Looks New in Ultimate?

Previously sporting designs from Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess, Zelda now has her Link Between Worlds look, itself inspired by her classic Link To The Past look. She retains her newer moves from Smash Wii U / 3DS like the ability to conjure an armored Phantom to help her. Final Smash move. But most promising is just general consensus that Zelda is faster and stronger all around.

Our Hopes?

A magic-wielding princess from one of the best game series of all-time sounds like a super appealing character for a fighting game. One of Zelda's best moves is a little one that blasts with lightning if you space it right and that's awesome! So we're hoping Ultimate Smash finally does justice to Zelda's legendary potential.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate releases Dec. 7 for Nintendo Switch. Until we can read more, we are talking about speculation. For more thoughts check out our Smash hands-on as more cool Smash Bros., because those definitely exist.
