With the announcement of another announcement regarding the 2018 MacBook scheduled for Oct. 30, what is there before for the current MacBook Air?
At only $ 999, the MacBook Air … is a real flight (this sentence may contain traces of irony).
–Apple MacBook Air 13 2017 Review (1.8 GHz) Review, Notebookcheck.net, June 23, 2017
Ironically, here are the obsolete specifications of the current MBA and what Apple can use to create a new low-cost MacBook.
Processor:
- $ 999 Current MacBook Air (MBA): Intel Core i5-5350U, 5th generation Broadwell processor (three generations of processor behind the MacBook Pro Touch Bar).
- New *: 7th and / or 8th generation Intel processors.
Graphic:
- Current MBA: Intel HD Graphics 6000, the graphics processor "Broadwell" introduced early 2015.
- New: possibly Intel Graphics 620 or later. The 620 is used in consumer laptops based on Intel's 7th and 8th generation processors.
Memory:
- Current MBA: 1600 MHz of LPDDR3 memory
- New: faster LPDDR3 memory
Display:
- Current MBA: Thick frame around low resolution TN panel – 1440 x 900 pixel resolution, 128 pixels per inch.
- New: thin bezel with IPS panel and Retina resolution (about 226 pixels per inch).
Storage room:
- Current MBA: PCIe SSD associated with the older Broadwell processor (slow write performance compared to newer MacBooks)
- New: Based on PCIe SSD coupled with a newer processor.
L & # 39; Audio:
- Current: stereo speakers
- New: improved speakers
Connectors / Ports / Slots:
- Current MBA: USB 3.0 (2), ThunderBolt 2, SDXC card slot, MagSafe 2
- New: USB Type C (possibly Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.1 Gen 2)
Weight:
- Current MBA: 2.96 pounds.
- New: pretty much the same.
Conclusion:
As I have already written, with the right balance of prices and specifications, Apple would probably have a hit on the fingers. MacBooks are still popular around the world and a Retina-class MacBook within reach of the average consumer has latent demand.

NOTES:
* All that is designated as "new" above is speculation. Basically, the technologies available for Apple from October 2018.
