Red Dead Redemption 2 puts you in the shoes of Arthur Morgan, an out-of-law cowboy on the run. He is the key member of a gang and, as all outlaw gangs have the habit of doing, they commit crimes from time to time. However, since Rockstar has created a game world that reacts to your behavior and presents you with the chain effects of your actions, it's much harder to escape with nothing than you thought.
People who live in the wild west of Red Dead Redemption 2 are always on the lookout and, while some will turn a blind eye to your misplaced behaviors, others may feel compelled to do something to remedy what they've seen. This means that if you break the law while people are present, they could send you away. During our game session, we had a good example of this system in action.
While we were in a swampy area, we shot down someone and were immediately informed that there was a witness who had seen everything. As we turned to locate this person, a lady screamed and started running away. Naturally, not wanting to spend the night behind bars or even six feet underground, we sued to arrest him. Once close enough to her, we fired Arthur 's gun in the air and she stopped in her tracks.
Using the new chat options of the game, we selected the option "Threaten" and she responded by saying that she would tell no one what she had seen. However, her voice was audacious and her tone and attitude presented her as someone who would do the right thing and tell us at the next available opportunity. We chose to let her go and, as we suspected, a few moments later, the incident was reported. When we asked Rockstar if we could make sure she would not report it, a representative told us that we could have doubled the threat to effectively convince her that we wanted to say business and scare her to remain silent .
Ensuring that things do not escalate when you engage in criminal activity gives the impression that it will take a lot of thought and careful planning. In addition to keeping potential witnesses in mind, there are also other small ways in which things can go wrong if you are not careful. For example, if you do not wear a bandanna or otherwise cover your face, the witnesses will remember you and report you to the authorities.
Based on our experience of the game, once things turn into hand fights and rifle fights, it's much harder to deflate and return to a neutral state compared to previous Rockstar games. In the Grand Theft Autos of the old and the former Red Dead Redemption, the appeasement of things usually involved breaking the line of sight of the witnesses or lawyers in order to hide until the situation is deflating. However, as the world is more responsive, even doing this can be difficult in Red Dead Redemption 2. Poor hygiene can also change people's behavior towards you. So you can bet that walking around covered with blood will make it much more difficult for Arthur Morgan to escape.
Red Dead Redemption 2 will be available on October 26 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. There will be a bunch of special editions, and you can get details on each of them in our pre-order Red Dead Redemption Guide 2. A month after launching the game, in November 2018, Red Dead Online will be available in public beta.
