Toyota extends its TRD line up in an unexpected way. The Toyota 2020 Camry TRD will arrive alongside a new Avalon TRD next year, and both will come with significant performance improvements.
The models are tuned to the chassis by Toyota Racing Development. Special shock absorbers, thicker base reinforcements and unique coil springs ensure better body control and maneuverability, as well as a 0.6-inch lower ride height. At the same time, the front brakes were upgraded with larger 12.9-inch diameter discs and double piston calipers.
Both TRD vehicles receive a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that produces 301 hp. With a dual cat-back exhaust, this engine should look more impressive than before. As on standard Camrys and Avalons, the engine matches an eight-speed automatic transmission.
In the looks department, the Camry and Avalon TRD have red brake calipers, 19-inch black wheels, TRD end caps and TRD badges. Available colors are: Supersonic Red, Windchill Pearl, Celestial Silver Metallic and Metallic Black. Beyond that, an aerodynamic body kit adds a special front splitter, aerodynamic skirts, a rear diffuser and a trunk flap. Inside each model you will find red safety belts and many red stitching. A TRD-marked shift button completes the look.
The Avalon TRD and the TRD Camry will be on sale in the fall of 2019. Prior to that, the vehicles will be showcased at the L.A. Auto Show.
