According to one Bloomberg Reportage, Toyota has finally agreed to bring Android Auto support to its future vehicles after years of avoidance of the platform. In the past, Toyota has raised security and privacy issues with Auto, despite support for Apple's CarPlay earlier this year.
Toyota Motor Corp. has agreed to add Android Auto to its vehicles, according to a person familiar with the subject, ending years of resistance to Google's infotainment software for security reasons.
For the first time, Toyota will allow Android Auto devices to connect directly to its cars after announcing compatibility with Apple's CarPlay in January. Previously, the two platforms could only be connected to Toyota vehicles with the help of SmartDeviceLink, a telematics system developed by Ford Motor Co. that controls how Android Auto and CarPlay look at the board and limit their access to automotive data.
Google and Toyota have officially commented on the report, but apparently a public announcement could arrive in October. A spokesman for the automaker has, however, recognized consumer demand for support of Google's platform.
