Tumblr claims that child pornography was the reason for the sudden disappearance of its application on the iOS App Store. The application had not existed in the store since November 16, but so far the reason for its absence was unclear. Initially, Tumblr was simply saying that he "was working to solve the problem with the iOS app." Download.com Approached Tumblr with sources claiming that the reason was related to the discovery of child pornography on the service, the social media network owned by Yahoo, issued a new statement confirming the case.
In its updated statement, Tumblr stated that even though every image uploaded to the platform is "analyzed with the help of a database of child pornography materials" to filter out the explicit images, an " routine audit "discovered a content missing from the database, allowing it to slide through the filter. Although Tumblr indicates that the content was immediately removed, its application remains unavailable on the App Store. It's still available on the Google Play Store for Android users.
Tumblr is known for its permissive attitude towards NSFW and adult content in its service, which has already resulted in its temporary ban in Indonesia. However, child pornography is a completely different issue. Apple's iOS guidelines clearly state that all applications must have a content filter to filter this type of content. It therefore appears that Tumblr's existing system did not conform to this standard. Although the company stated that the reinstatement of its application was its "top priority", it was unable to provide a clear timetable for its return.
