Tumblr started from iOS App Store via explicit content

Mobile apps come and go, but when popular apps like Tumblr suddenly disappear without a trace, let alone warning, people naturally start asking questions. And when that's been the case for days, not just hours, people are starting to worry. While Tumblr users regularly post updates to users with the message "we are working on it", it now provides an explanation of what has actually happened. And, unsurprisingly, the social network is used as a means of peddling illegal content.

The mystery of Tumblr began over the weekend when users started reporting all kinds of application-related issues on iPhones and iPads. Some could not find the application listed in the iOS App Store. Some Tumblr users still installed said they could not use the app. And yet, some said they could not disable the safe mode of the network, which would have allowed them to see more mature content on blogs.

In fact, it is this mature content that has caused problems to Tumblr with the rules of the Apple App Store. And not just the mature generic content, the mind, but the explicit media presenting the exploitation and sexual abuse on children. This is a huge no-no for almost all sites and services, even those aimed at the NSFW industry.

Tumblr explains that he's always striven to create a secure online environment and has collaborated with "peers and partners" to monitor downloaded content. Each image, said Tumblr, is analyzed against a database of the sector in order to filter the illegal contents even before nobody can see the image. In this case, however, the Tumblr audit revealed a new batch of content that has not yet been included in this database and has been published on Tumblr. Since Apple does not have direct control over what is published on Tumblr, its only option is to simply delete Tumblr itself from traffic.

Tumblr says that he's working with Apple to bring the application back to the store. Now that he has learned this lesson the hard way, he will probably be more attentive to what will be posted on his network, at least for a moment. Unfortunately, Tumblr became known precisely for this type of content that would ban you immediately on Facebook and Twitter.
