The latest Twitter tweak offers a return to what many see as better days: the era of chronological timeline (or, to be precise, the reverse chronology). Now users can escape the algorithm that dictates what are the "best tweets" for them, and just see the latest ones. Will it solve all the problems of Twitter, greatly reduce the drag and create a fully modified platform? No, probably none of these things – but it's incredibly nice to have a social media platform taking into account what its users have requested and actually provided.
1 / We are working on new ways to give you more control over your calendar. But first, some contexts: Twitter helps you see what's going on by showing you the best Tweets based on your interactions.https: //t.co/H5nuhQy3r2

Now you can turn off the "Show best tweets first" setting. Once you do, you will see tweets from people you follow in the reverse chronological order – the presentation style of the original content of the platform before introducing the best tweets algorithm by default in 2016. Previously, you could also see it "and tweets recommended by people you do not follow." Twitter's long-term plan is to create an easily accessible way to switch between a timeline and "the most relevant Which will be tested in the "coming weeks".
The response to this change has been mostly positive among users, many of whom have suggested that this would help reduce the "feedback loop" effect, in which users only see tweets from the same people, thus reinforcing some ways of thinking thoughts of others who think differently. However, if users move to the timeline, they may miss many viral tweets, which has become an integral part of the platform.
Now the question remains: will other social media giants like Facebook and its affiliate Instagram also join them and come up with a way out of the algorithm? Only time will tell. But the sudden flow of goodwill towards Twitter is certainly something that is badly needed by Facebook.
To go to the timeline, go to your Twitter app settings and tap "Content preferences." From there, you can choose not to see the "best tweets" and only see the latest tweets.
