Twitter sends a strange and absurd notification to its users

Twitter sends strange and absurd notifications to many of its users.

The messages normally appear on the Home screen or at the bottom of the application, if it is already open. They appear as usual, in a blue box.

But the text of the message itself is totally absurd. It is full of a series of numbers and letters, which appear to be different each time but always end with a colon and a number.

Some people receive a lot of notifications. Searching the site itself reveals dozens of reports of the problem every minute.

The problem seems to come from the technology that feeds Twitter's notification systems. The string of numbers probably refers to some of the code in Twitter, which would normally be replaced by something that a human can read but does not do because of a bug.

But users report that messages are displayed even when they are not expecting to receive notification.

All messages seem to appear in the last few minutes.
