Sometimes a bird in hand will take you two in the bush. And by "bush", I mean a garage.
An Ebay seller is currently auctioning a pair of 1970 Plymouth Superbirds that have been stocked for over 30 years, until he buys them after a chance meeting last month.
He had just paid $ 187,000 for another iconic muscle car at an auction in Maine, when someone approached him and told him about his secret hiding place.
Within days, he bought the pair for an undisclosed amount and dug them into the cluttered, dusty garage in which they were sitting.
The man who sold them was only the second owner, having picked them up in 1978. But he let his listings expire in the mid-1980s and they have been parked since.
Aside from getting answers, both are almost all original and have 440-cubic-inch V8s fitted with numbers with four-cylinder carburetors. One of them is equipped with a manual transmission, the other automatic, and its odometers only reach 27,000 and 42,000 miles.
They did not run all these years, but their mechanic filled them with pure antifreeze and Marvel Mystery Oil before putting them away.
Their bodies stay upright, but the inside of one is in better shape than the other. Apparently, this is not really a problem for collectors.
To date, bids on each car have exceeded $ 125,000 and could be much higher before the auction ends in one week. According to the Hagerty Price Guide, cars are worth more than $ 250,000 if they are fully restored.
