The new second generation Apple Pencil.
The Apple pencil for iPad Pro, as Apple calls it, is definitely an improvement over an already excellent tool. However, to use it, you also need a new iPad Pro and application updates.
If you are currently using the old Apple pencil on an old iPad Pro application, the new pencil will work with this app on new devices. The problem is not whether your applications will work with the new Pen, but rather whether they will take advantage of its new features, such as double-taping to change tools or the stroke and brush size you make for the new pen. 'screen.
Over time, you can be sure that any currently supported application will add at least support for the new features of Pencil, but for now, here are the ones that have already been updated.
Drawing
Not surprisingly, drawing and sketching apps are among the first to tackle the new Apple pencil.

Procreate 4.2.1 added substantial support for cropping, selection, inking, and slicing features, all of which are updated to exploit both the Crayon and iPad Pro multi-touch screen.
Perhaps less known, Concepts 5.2.2 is a drawing and design application. Its new update allows you to customize the application's response to a double-click.

In the same way, Color Splash for iPad 3.1.0 adds support by two supports, but in this case, it is only configured to switch between color mode and capture application.
Silk 2 – Generative Art 2.718928 may have a difficult version number, but this wallpapers and mandalas drawing application also takes advantage of new devices. You can switch to the Eraser tool or display a color picker.
Studio Paint Clip for Manga 1.8.3, iPastels 3.4, Lux Draw 3.2 and Graphic for iPad 3.5 are other types of graphics applications that incorporate dual-pressure support.
Design and edition
The OmniGraffle 3.8 Diagram and Design Tool adds a particularly comprehensive pencil support and double tapping options.
Complete OmniGraffle options for the new Apple pencil
By default, OmniGraffle respects the preferences you have chosen for the pencil in the settings of your iPad Pro. However, you can have it so that when using OmniGraffle, a double tap on the pen swaps between the current tool and the previous tool. Alternatively, this can be how you call the navigation or inspector items of the application, or how you go to full screen.
Live Home 3D Pro is an application to design the layout of your home or your planned building. It now supports new iPad Pro and developers claim to have "improved the workflow by pressing Apple Pencil twice (2nd Generation)".
Similarly, the developers of Measure Map Pro 1.9 say that the updated support for the new pen allows you to "measure distances, perimeters, and areas with extreme accuracy."
Juxtaposer 3.13, an application that combines images into mounts, also allows you to use double-clicking to switch between tools.
Editing and annotation
One of the most creative uses of the double-tap comes from LiquidText 3.8. The quick way to describe LiquidText is to say that it's a reader and a PDF editor, but in reality, it's a rather surprisingly creative way of manipulating information that's in a PDF.
One of its main features is that you can take an excerpt from the PDF file and temporarily store it on what's called a workspace. You can now draw a circle around any part of the PDF file and, if you double-tap the pencil, the contents of that circle will be immediately extracted into the workspace.
The developer promised that other options would be available soon, but for the moment also made short demo on Twitter.
To mark more normal PDFs, you can also use the newly updated Apple pen with PDF Expert by Readdle. In this case, you have the choice to cancel or cancel the use of commonly used tools.
MathKey – LaTeX Converter 1.3.1 is a handwriting application that converts your scribbles into LaTeX / MathML expressions and now allows you to double click to switch between stylus and eraser. It can also be used to call the color picker of the application.
Similarly, GoodNotes 4 can now act double-tap, but the app has not added any special features. It will only respect the preference you have chosen in the iOS 12 settings.
More options
Explain Everything Collaborate 5.2.4 is an online whiteboard that allows you to work on the Web with colleagues and now with the second generation Apple Pencil.
In the same vein, we also have Scribble Together Whiteboard 2.4.1. If you are on a FaceTime or another call with someone, you can launch this app and draw together. The new update supports the default actions of iOS 12 for double-clicking.
Compared to the number of applications where you type or tap, applications using the Apple pencil will always constitute a small niche. However, a niche can sometimes be very well served and the addition of the appropriate Pencil holder can be a boon.
The forScore Music Score App has been updated to support the new Apple Pen.
As in forScore 10.5, which is an application for musicians working with scores.
You can now double-tap the new Apple pencil to change tools or edit tools while annotating a partition. However, when you do not add or edit annotations, you can use the same double support to choose other settings for the application.
Double threaded
If you were the type to use the Apple pencil as much as a thinking tool as a stylus, as a thing to play with which you think, then hopefully you will not also tend to tap on it.
From the Apple launch video, use Apple Pencil to think.
You will have to train now and we also hope that Apple has seriously tested the number of possible double taps.
It is remarkable how much this feature is quite small and can be adapted. You can imagine that other companies would have added triple taps or put a tappable area on both sides of the pencil.
Apple has opted for a minimalist approach, which means that the features of Apple Pencil have been improved in a very natural way. You do not feel compelled to tweak, write or draw according to your needs.
