Less than a week before the unveiling of Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL phones by Google at a press event in New York, Verizon stopped selling Pixel 2 on its website. Droid Life was one of the first to discover the change on Thursday, and a quick look at Internet Archive shows that the Just Black and Clearly White models of the 5-inch phone were available until September 27th. Now, pixel 2 does not even appear in the search results.
It's hard to know if it's a permanent fix, because Google has not announced any interruption to its use of Pixel 2, but it's possible that Pixel 2 is not not offered as a cheaper alternative to Pixel 3 when the new phone will be available later this month. That said, the Pixel 2 XL is still available on the Verizon website.
For now, Pixel 2 is still available on the Google online store. In fact, the 64GB models of the three color options are sold, but it could also be temporary. Since Verizon is the exclusive provider of Google's Google Pixel phones in the US, the only way to buy a Pixel 2 is through the Google website or Best Buy stores.
This morning we learned that the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL pre-orders will start on October 9, just after the closing of the big press conference. Phones should be marketed by Friday, October 19, a week before the iPhone XR. We are also expecting to see more new material during the event, including new Home devices, a new TV package with a Chromecast and a Home Mini, and possibly a Chromebook or two as well.
Regarding the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL, we have found countless leaks detailing the specifications, features and design of both phones. Although the Pixel 3 seems to retain many Pixel 2 design elements, the Pixel 3 XL has adopted its what has been the case with virtually all flagship phones outside of Samsung's Galaxy line.
