Differences in performance
Inside, the Galaxy Note 9 ships the same Qualcomm 845 processor included in the Galaxy S9. It is an eight-core processor consisting of four efficient cores and four performance cores, running up to 2.8 GHz. In comparison, the iPhone X has a six-core processor that contains four efficient cores and two high-performance cores that can reach a maximum speed slightly below 2.39 GHz.
Note 9 has the same Adreno 630 graphics chip as the Galaxy S9 and S9 +, which is 30% faster, 30% more efficient and 2.5 times faster than the graphics chip used in Note 8.
At the launch of Note 9, Samsung also focused on its new water-carbon cooling system and how it prevents overheating, which in theory would allow Note 9 to stay longer. fresh.
For testing, "Fortnite" has been fully updated on both devices, and to make each device harder, we have used the screen recording function of each smartphone at the same time.
Both phones are also charged to the maximum capacity of the battery, with the brightness of the screen set to their respective maximums. We also made sure to close all backend applications as well.
IPhone experience "Fortnite"
In the "Fortnite" settings, we set the quality to High. For some reason, the Epic quality option is grayed out even after the latest update that solved the iOS performance issues. We also play at 30 frames per second.
After participating in a Battle Royale game, we noticed that the gameplay was exceptional, with only one case of loss of images, when jumping off the bus. Previously, there were pictures lost everywhere, causing gameplay problems and making competition difficult.
The auto-aiming system has proved boring after a few fights, preventing players from aiming from time to time.
Even in the fighting, we do not see any loss of images. This is a huge improvement over the previous "Fortnite" update version. We then tested the screen recording, and to be quite honest, we did not notice any success on the gameplay. That's what we like in the screen recording feature of iOS 11, as it uses virtually no resources.
After playing for about 25 minutes, our autonomy on the iPhone X was 85%, which is not too serious since our brightness has been set to the maximum.
"Fortnite" note 9
A huge difference is the size of the screen, which makes "Fortnite" more immersive on the note 9. There is also no notch to deal with, and the curved edges really help to reduce the glasses.
Unfortunately we did not get any graphical settings in the lobby, but in game we were able to adjust the settings and set the graphics to a high level. We chose not to use Epic, the iPhone X being limited to high graphics.
The Android version seems to be an exact copy of the iOS version. You do not miss any of the features.
In game, Note 9 seems to be as smooth as the iPhone X. We noticed a few more jumps by jumping off the bus, but other than that, it is perfectly playable.
We also noticed that the user interface of Note 9 is a little larger, while it is further away from the center of the screen. This makes it easier to use, while making it more difficult to accidentally hit buttons like the one to target the views.
After enabling screen recording, we did not really notice any performance results either. There may have been more image losses, but relatively few overall.
Before the new update, the screen recording made the game totally unplayable, with frame rates of 5 to 8 frames per second during a fight. Once we stopped recording, he returned to normal.
After the recent update, this problem has been resolved, however, we have noticed a new problem. When we adjusted the volume during recording, there was some lag before the adjustment occurred, on the order of 10 seconds or more.
It was very annoying because I did not stop trying to make it stronger, and 15 seconds later, it would be maximum to click as many times. After stopping the recording, everything is back to normal.
The gameplay was very fluid, like the iPhone X. We found that the display of Note 9 was more saturated and the colors were significantly longer compared to the iPhone X. In addition, the screen is a little brighter than the iPhone. iPhone X too.
We tested the Epic quality settings, and this certainly seemed a little more specific and detailed, with little performance either. There may have been some more pictures, but nothing too serious or noticeable.
Hopefully the problems with the iPhone X not allowing you to choose the Epic graphics settings will be fixed soon.
After about the same amount of "Fortnite" gameplay, Note 9 was at 84% of battery life, in the same order of magnitude as the iPhone X.
Royal Performance
Both phones did a great job in terms of performance. The gameplay was very fluid, even in screen recording. They seemed basically the same, except that the increased saturation of Note 9 made it look nicer than that of the iPhone X.
We noticed that the user interface was bigger on the 9 note, which makes it a little easier to play. The larger screen and the missing notch also helped.
The iPhone X, overall, did better than Note 9 because of the problems of Note 9 with the volume adjustment during recording. However, the Epic Settings option was dimmed on the iPhone X, while it was available on Note 9.
Anyway, these two problems should be solved afterwards, so that both phones are perfect for playing games.
As for the life of the battery, they were also similar, neither of the two phones working better than the other. In terms of heat output, the two phones warmed up a bit, but not more than the others.
So, if you want to start playing demanding games like "Fortnite", the iPhone X and the Note 9 are outstanding options for you. The gameplay is incredibly smooth with minimal loss of images, which you would not expect to see on many other mobile devices.
