Enter the conspiracy theories. The real reason why YouTube fell? Because NASA told them to close their doors.
The sources on this particular theory are incredibly brief, as one might expect. But people say that YouTube has been closed because of one video in particular. The video showed a man in uniform saying that something was about to hit the moon and that thousands of people were watching him when the site was mysteriously closed around the world.
The person making these claims is a popular conspiracy theorist on YouTube who previously targeted NASA for alleged cover-up.
"When the situation arises, NASA's practice is to cut off the flow of offline activity," says Tyler Glockner, of YouTuber, Woman at first.
Again, it's a dubious source and a dubious theory, but it's more an explanation than anything YouTube or the parent company that Google has managed to offer. When several media strived to further comment on the crash, Google said they had nothing to add to the tweets already posted by YouTube about the crash – which contained no explanation.
