If you're holding off on Microsoft's ultra-powerful Xbox One X at launch, I do not blame you. The beastly console is an impressive piece of hardware, but at launch it was hard to tell exactly which games it was meant to show off: support meant that exclusive titles were not up to par with what we were seeing from Sony. Now, however, things are looking brighter. Not only is Xbox One X the best place to play Red Dead Redemption 2, but there are also a few more multiplatform titles like Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Far Cry 5 that take better advantage of things, not to mention Forza Horizon 4 for racing enthusiasts. That, combined with much more favorable pricing, make Black Friday 2018 not such a bad time to buy an Xbox One X.
We've already had a bit of a preview of what we expect in the form of an impressive Red Dead Redemption 2 deal that took $ 100 off the price of any Xbox One X bundle when you bought it with Rockstar's western. That deal is done, but it offers us a hint at what we can expect going forward: Microsoft is interested in making money off of subscriptions, and so that it can be a bit less expensive.
So far one of the best we've seen is $ 100 of a PUBG bundle at Kohl's, with a fistful of Kohl's cash to go along with it. eBay is also taking $ 100 off in an early sale, though just for the basic console.
That 's the unit I'd expect to get to work with. We've yet to see the biggest console sellers: Best Buy, GameStop and Walmart, all of which are likely to have some attractive bundles if history serves. Microsoft will also have its own deal that is more.
I still expect this year to be conservative this year, but I expect no reticence on the part of Microsoft. We're now starting to talk about the next console generation, and we're still in the process of doing it. Right now, I'd say $ 400 for your Xbox One X this Black Friday, and expect to get along with it too.
