What to expect – Quartz

It's at this time of year again that Starbucks starts selling pumpkin and spice lattes when the temperature in the United States (in theory) begins to drop and Apple holds its annual event in September. The consumer electronics giant is traditionally hosting an event earlier this month to showcase its latest gadgets, including the latest iPhone.

The event will be held on its new $ 5 billion campus in Cupertino, Calif., Sept. 12 at 10:00 am Pacific Time (1:00 pm Eastern Standard Time at 6:00 pm London time) ).

Here is a quick overview of all the things we can expect to see:

So many new iPhones

Last year, Apple confused its own naming conventions by following the iPhone 7 with the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X (pronounced "ten"). If we believe the rumors, we might not have an iPhone 9 at all. Instead, Apple seems ready to launch three different size X tracks, including one called the iPhone XS, destined to be the successor of the X, and the other so-called "XS Max" .

We do not know what will be the third device. Reports suggest that the smallest device (maybe it will be the 9th?) Will feature a 6.1 inch LCD and will be the cheapest of the new offers. The XS will look a lot like the X of last year, and the XS Max, the strange name, will feature a 6.5-inch screen. It is expected that all three have a notch at the top of the device, as on the X.

There have been reports that the new phones will come in new colors, that they will have new USB-C chargers, and that the phones will not feature the 3D Touch technology Apple introduced for the first time on the # 1 IPhone 6s proved particularly popular.

There are also conflicting reports as to whether Apple will update its most affordable phone, the little iPhone SE, or whether the new 6.1-inch notch phone will be the cheapest option.

The Apple Watch 4 series

Apple's 9to5Mac news site had a pretty clear glimpse of an Apple Watch leaked last week. If it's good of the latest version of Apple's notebook, it seems that the new watch will offer a larger and sharper screen, about 15% larger than those of the first three models . Fortunately, for those who have accumulated a lot of watch groups in recent years, it seems that they are always compatible with the new model. Reports suggest that the device will be faster than older models, will feature a larger crown and better wireless connectivity, as well as software enhancements. Beyond that, little is known: it is difficult to know if it will be more watertight (you would not want to dive with a Series 3), if you have a better autonomy or if Siri will be faster.

New iPads

Apple, which hosted an iPad-themed event in March for its lower shelves, did not introduce a new iPad Pro model this summer, as it did last year. Recent leaks suggest that a new, more angular iPad Pro, with a big screen and no home button, could be around the corner. Apparently will feature the same feature of unlocking FaceID and lacks a fingerprint scanner just like the iPhone X.

New computers

Reports earlier this summer suggest that Apple will reintroduce some old computer favorites, including a new Mac Mini desktop and a revamped MacBook Air. Apple watchers suspected that the company was killing the thin and affordable Air when introducing the new MacBook in 2015. Yet it was slightly refreshed last summer and it seems that the popular device put needed in September, including new ports, faster processors, and an HD display.

Apple may also update its iMac desktop and MacBook laptop (both versions have not been updated for more than a year).

New things on TV

Last year, Apple unveiled a minor update to its Apple TV box, bringing 4K streaming to the device. It is possible that the company has something much bigger in store this year.

Apple has slowly acquired talents and scripts to develop its own original content – mostly TV shows – and could consider giving them free to Apple device owners. Analysts suspect Apple's next gigs will be available via Apple's TV app and may be free for anyone with an Apple TV. This would be a big step forward in the business model of a business that charges just about everything it can. Again, Apple began distributing its operating systems for free in 2013 to show what computers could do. It is therefore not impossible that Apple distributes TV shows to sell more Apple TV or other devices.

One more thing?

Even with so many leaks and rumors, there is always a chance that Apple still has something else. It announced AirPower, its wireless charging station capable of charging up to three devices at a time, last year, but gave no indication on when it will be shipped or on its cost. Last year, Apple also alluded to a wireless charging case for its AirPods headset. A new model may be unveiled on September 12th.
