Neerja Arora, commercial director of WhatsApp, is the latest Facebook executive to step down from the facebook group of companies in recent months. In an article on Facebook, Arora said it "would take time to revitalize and spend time with his family," and thanked the co-founders WhatsApp, Jan Koum and Brian Acton.
Koum has stepped down as CEO of WhatsApp earlier this year due to disagreements with Facebook executives over privacy and encryption. Acton left WhatsApp a year ago, in September 2017, to create his own non-profit association. However, a few months later, he urged people to #deletefacebook on his Twitter account. The departure of the co-founders would have been summary disagreements on the monetization options of WhatsApp, anti-advertisements from the beginning.
It's time. #deletefacebook
– Brian Acton (@brianacton) March 20, 2018
Arora had been working for WhatsApp since 2011, while the company was only two years old. He was part of Google's business development team and was part of several acquisitions during which he worked for four years. Previously, he worked at Times Internet. So far this year, he has served on Paytm's board for almost three years.
Note that WhatsApp has just hired its very first manager in India – former Ezetap founder Abhijit Bose – after the Union government exerted immense pressure to control the spread of misinformation on WhatsApp. The India office will be based in Gurgaon and will be WhatsApp's first office outside the United States.
