Windows 10 users left puzzled and enraged by the problem of Microsoft activation

Microsoft would work on a bug fix for its activation server that caused Windows 10 Pro computers to report that their license had not been activated.

The problem caused panic among some Windows 10 users who reported to Reddit that the bug "disabled" Windows because it was switching the machine from Pro to Home and the licenses did not match.

"Suddenly, after years of using this key, coming out of Windows 8 Pro, and then migrated for free to Windows 10, I received a notification stating that my key was the Windows 10 Home version and that I had to install it .Wtf are going on. " wrote another user on the growing Reddit thread.

Another user with the same problem wrote, "I just got there, I had a Windows 8.1 Pro physical key and I had it enabled / upgraded to Windows 10 Pro as I did years ago."

Microsoft has confirmed the existence of a problem affecting its activation server and is currently working on a fix that will occur in "one or two business days".

This should mean that the relevant Windows 10 Pro licenses are still valid, despite information from Microsoft.

DanielRandy, a Windows 10 user, has posted his activation problem on the Microsoft Answers Forum and has posted a quote from a Microsoft agent.

"Microsoft has just posted an announcement regarding an issue related to the Pro Edition recently, which is happening in Japan, Korea, America and many other countries," wrote the author. support agent.

"I'm sorry to inform you that there is currently a temporary problem with the Microsoft Activation Server and that some customers may experience this problem when Windows displays as not enabled." Our Engineers Work relentlessly to solve this problem and we expect it to be corrected in one to two business days, Daniel. "

Similar messages reported from Microsoft Product Support Agents have been posted in other discussions about the problem.

However, the @MicrosoftHelps account on Twitter has simply been User score on the standard support page for troubleshooting activation.

In response to a user reporting the activation problem 10 hours ago, @MicrosoftHelps m said there is "no known issue regarding license deactivation".

Since then, he has asked the affected users to provide additional details in a direct message. This suggests at least that Microsoft is investigating.

As reported by Computerworld, German readers of the Günter Born website described the problem in more detail:

"At least here, Windows is no longer enabled after the test machine upgrade." The Activation Troubleshooter detects a Windows 10 Pro digital license and reports that an upgrade of editing is required, but the following upgrade process stops immediately and activation does not take place. …

Event ID 8198:

The license activation (slui.exe) failed with the following error code:

hr = 0xC004C003 "

ZDNet has contacted Microsoft and will update the article if it receives a response.
