Windows Update October 10, 2018: Microsoft struggles to eliminate bugs

With just one month before the release of the Windows 10 October 2018 or 1809 update, the latest version of Microsoft's preview is to eliminate problems instead of introducing new features.

The last preview of its Redstone 5 (RS5) branch for Windows users on the fast track is version 17754, and less than a week after version 17751 reached the fast ring.

Both contain more than a dozen bugfiles each, the first addressing GSOD or "green screen of death" issues, failed applications, fake "You are up to date" messages, and unstable network connectivity. .

The last preview corrects a series of minor bugs, several problems causing breakdowns and strange problems that would hinder the masses if they passed through the final version.

And Microsoft plans to eliminate more bugs in the coming weeks, as it "enters the final code verification phase to prepare the final version."

The Action Center notification system of Windows 10 should now be more reliable once Microsoft has fixed an unnamed problem that has caused erratic behavior.

Some insiders may have already noticed that quickly opening a flyout on the taskbar, such as network or volume, would scramble the pop-up window.

And insiders with multiple monitors may have noticed that if the Open or Save dialog box were moved between monitors, they would shrink unexpectedly. Microsoft has solved this problem.

The failure incidents corrected in this preview are due to writing to Web Edge Notes, Task Manager crashes, Settings hangs for multi-monitor configurations, and a crash occurs when you click the Check link in the Account Settings page.

Microsoft has also corrected two issues affecting progressive Web applications or PWA, which began appearing in the Microsoft Store earlier this year, along with the Windows 10 April 2018 update, the first version of Windows 10 to support PWA.

Twitter, Pinterest, Tinder and many other sites have launched PWAs, which work offline, and seem to visually operate outside of the browser.

According to Microsoft, clicking on links in PWAs like Twitter did not open the browser. In addition, some PWAs were not well rendered after suspension and resumption of application.

This release also fixes a bug that prevented League of Legends and games from launching or logging properly.

The October 2018 update will mark the sixth major release of Windows 10, which is now deployed twice a year, since Microsoft moved Windows to a service model in 2015.
