His lawyers argue that the lump sum he received only concerned the first game and that CD Projekt Red now owes him at least six per cent of the profits of the following titles. However, CD Projekt Red believes it has already fulfilled its contract with Sapkowskit and has published a letter in which it is positioned. Part of this letter reads as follows:
"The company had legitimately and legally acquired the copyright in the work of Mr. Andrzej Sapkowski, especially to the extent necessary for its use in games developed by the company. result have been duly paid. "
Sapkowskit said previously Eurogamer that he now felt "stupid" in accepting the lump sum payment for the use of his works. He also revealed that CD Projekt Red initially offered him a percentage of the profits made on the games, but he did not have the foresight to see how successful these games would be.
Meanwhile, CD Projekt Red is not resting on its previous successes. The company is working hard for its next game, Cyberpunk 2077, a title inspired by the table RPG of the same name. Although no one expects the title to come out soon, the developer continues to tease fans with screenshots and videos that give players an idea of what to expect. Because of the success of the company with The witcher franchise, fans already have high expectations for the new title.
Given Sapkowskit's comments, it seems like it's a 20/20 recession case and a money grab for something that he thought was failing and that would not have done it.
