Withings publishes its first smartwatch after being acquired from Nokia

Less than two years after Nokia's acquisition of the French start-up Withings digital health, it was decided that the company was struggling to "meet its growth expectations." Now the company is back with a new logo and a new fitness tracker. The Steel HR Sport smartwatch features GPS connectivity, oxygen absorption sensors and, most importantly, the Withings trademark.

Steel HR Sport shares the same features as the Nokia-launched Steel HR smartwatch in 2016: 25-day battery life, heart rate monitor and smartphone notifications. GPS connectivity is new – paired with a smartphone, users can track their walking, running or bike workouts and then display their routes in the Health Mate app (available for Android and iOS). The integrated digital display also features a slightly updated analog dial that displays your health data and application notifications, as well as a new silicone bracelet.

Aesthetically, the Steel HR Sport deviates a little from previous Withings smartwatches. The sports band seems out of place when paired with the analog watch, which seemed classy with the original Steel HR leather bracelet. We know that Withings can create stylish sports watches, judging by the colorful line of Pop Activity.

You can set goals through the app, such as the number of steps to take, or improve your sleep score, which measures sleep quality based on duration and interruptions. The watch can also wake up the user with vibration alarms at optimal times during his sleep cycles.

The notification features of smartphones have improved because they are no longer limited to calls, texts and events. Now the watch can display notifications from more than 100 apps, including the latest news, flight alerts or messages from social apps. These features also extend to the original HR steel.

The Steel HR Sport comes in a black or white dial, with a standard gray silicone strap. It will be available on September 18th for $ 199.95 through the Withings or Amazon website.
