Work Insights Helps Businesses Understand How They Work – TechCrunch

At an event in Tokyo, Google today announced the launch of Work Insights, a new tool for organizations to better understand how their employees use G Suite productivity tools and how teams collaborate with these tools.

In addition, Google is also launching its investigative tool to help businesses better secure their data in G Suite in general availability.

"Work Insights is a tool specifically designed to help organizations measure and understand the impact of digital transformation in their business, driven by G Suite," said Reena Nadkarni, group product manager for G Suite. Data is aggregated at the team level (when a team needs 10 or more people) to help companies understand how their employees are adapting G Suite applications.

As companies bet on one supplier or the other, there is always a transition period and not everyone is doing the same fast. Most of these tools, however, really only work when the whole company adopts them. This is especially true for communication tools such as Slack, Hangouts Chat / Meet or Microsoft Teams, but also for productivity tools such as G Suite.

The other use cases here, however, are actually a lot more interesting. Work Insights will also give companies insight into how users of different teams interact with each other (think marketing and sales teams). If they work together on documents, they probably work well together (or just leave scathing comments on marketing presentations, but you get the general idea here).

"This overview can help leaders identify opportunities to strengthen collaboration and reduce burdens," Nadkarni writes. Given that few executives say they want less collaboration and more silos, there is a good chance that many companies will adopt these tools.
