We are big fans of the Xiaomi Mi A1 under Android One-powered at AP. Its combination of a beautiful design, a high-end software, excellent performance and a long battery life makes it one of the best cheap phones (even it's not officially sold in the United States). The phone has received Android 8.0 Oreo just before 2018 has started, but it took until now for 8.1 Oreo to roll out. Unfortunately, it comes with two pretty big bugs.

The 8.1 update comes with the June security fix, and it weighs about 1.15 GB. It's worth noting that the description of the update does not mention Android 8.1 Oreo, but look at the screenshots "About the phone" before and after the update. Compared to 8.0, 8.1 brings some minor modifications to the UI for the power menu, an updated launcher, a SystemUI theme that fits the color of your background. screen, as well as a battery indicator for connected Bluetooth devices. The update would also improve the sound quality of the phone.

Unfortunately, many owners of Mi A1 report that their SMS history is cleared after the update. The deletion apparently occurs after the application of messages is scanned in the recent ones. If you are concerned, we recommend that you back up your SMS via an application such as SMS Backup & Restore. The update also leads to the failure of SafetyNet, which is worrisome. We'll let you know if Xiaomi is doing anything about these bugs.
