Xiaomi phone shipments exceeded 100 million in October

China's smartphone maker Xiaomi delivered 100 million phones on Oct. 26, matching its annual target of more than two months from its original plan, Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun said on Tuesday. Sina Weibo of the company.

The threshold of 100 million shipments set in less than 10 months this year is also higher than the result of Xiaomi's annual shipments, which shipped a total of 90 million mobile handsets last year.

Lei released the latest shipping figure one day after unveiling the company's latest flagship all-screen phone lineup – the Mi Mix 3, which has a 93.4% screen-to-body ratio thanks to the design from his sliding camera – to the Forbidden City in Beijing.

It is also one of the most expensive handsets offered by the cheap phone brand so far. The base model price starts at 3,299 yuan, while a more expensive version could reach nearly 5,000 yuan per unit.

Xiaomi is one of the Chinese brands of smartphones that are actively exploring business opportunities outside the Chinese market. In India, the world's second-largest smartphone market, Xiaomi has extended its lead over Samsung with 27 percent market share versus 23 percent for the South Korean brand in the previous quarter, according to a recent report by Counterpoint Research.

The Chinese company has also started marketing its phones in European countries and has recorded significant sales growth this year.

But compared to Huawei, the biggest brand of phones in China, Xiaomi remains behind; Huawei delivered 100 million phones in mid-July, and expects to ship up to 200 million handsets this year, the company said.
