You may soon continue to use an Android application during the update.

At today's Android Development Summit, Google announced a new feature set that is part of the Android App Bundle tool, including an integrated update API that will allow developers to push users more aggressively to download. the latest version of an application.

To essentially force users to update, developers now have two new options to speed up application updates. For urgent issues, such as security bug fixes, developers can display a full-screen message the next time a user starts to notify them that an update is available. Users will also have the option to unsubscribe from the update if they are not connected to Wi-Fi, if their battery is low or for any other reason.

For less urgent updates, the built-in updates API also allows users to continue using the application normally while the update is downloaded in the background, with the new version being applied at the next start.

This is a big problem for the end user and the developers behind popular and emerging Android apps. If an application contains a critical bug, the API helps developers more urgently push users to update the latest patched version instead of assuming that automatic updates are enabled for users. This also removes the inconvenience of waiting for an application update if you want to continue using it, especially if you are working with lower download speeds.

The new update API is still in the initial tests with some Play Store application partners, with projects to extend to more (and possibly all) developers.
