USA Gymnastics continues to bog down in the mess caused by its own problems.

A day after the announcement of the hiring of Edward Nyman as the first director of medicine and sports science, the federation stepped back Tuesday, saying that "his job will not be maintained because of a conflict of interest ". USA Gymnastics said that she could not say more because it was a matter of staffing.

The quick turnaround and the confusion surrounding it is another false start for an organization that is still trying to recover from the damage caused by the many abuses committed by Larry Nassar. It also undermines the credibility of CEO Li Li Leung, who promised that the organization would be more transparent and responsive.

This is the third time since August that gymnastics leadership services in the United States last less than a week; Mary Bono served as Acting Executive Director for four days, and Mary Lee Tracy was asked to resign three days after being appointed Development Coordinator.

This also comes a week after Leung, a former gymnast who has been a long-time NBA ruler, apologized for his nasty comments on Nassar. Leung said she was treated by Nassar in the early '90s as a competitive gymnast, and she thought she did not mistreat him because his coach was present.

The lack of detail left some wondering if Nyman had been released because Nassar's abused women objected to his appointment. More than 350 women said that Nassar, longtime doctor of the USA Gymnastics team and Michigan State, had abused them, often on the pretext of medical treatment.

"Elite gymnasts in competition are stakeholders. A number of them were mistreated by Larry Nassar. None of them was consulted about this choice. None of my clients abused by Nassar want anything to do with male doctors. Typical, "John Manly, a lawyer who represents many women who sue USA Gymnastics for Nassar abuses, said on Twitter.

But that was a misinterpretation of Nyman's role, and USA Gymnastics then issued another statement claiming that his departure "was not based on any comments made on social media platforms or elsewhere."

Nyman is not a doctor, but rather a doctorate. who is president of health and human performance at the University of Findlay. He was to develop a sports science plan for all disciplines of American gymnastics – men's and women's gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline and tumbling and acrobatics – and supervise his medical staff.

He also reportedly liaised between the federation and the US Olympic Committee and the US Anti-Doping Agency.
