The United States held their ground and beat Europe to win the Ryder Cup on Sunday.
The United States were the first team to reach the 14.5 point threshold needed to win the trophy. This is the Americans’ first Ryder Cup Championship since 2016 and they made it to Whistling Straits, Wisconsin.

The Americans came out strong on Friday, scoring six points, then five more on Saturday. The team arrived on Sunday with one of the biggest advances in recent memory.
Sunday was the big test for the United States with the singles competition. But Scottie Scheffler and Patrick Cantlay arrived early in the afternoon with points while Rory McIlroy tried to rally the Europeans, beating Xander Sc Chaudele 3 & 2 in their match.
Scheffler finished undefeated in his first Ryder Cup appearance, 2-0-1.

Collin Morikawa would give the United States the half point they needed to clinch and the fans went wild.
The Ryder Cup was moved to September 2021 after the coronavirus impacted sports around the world, including golf. The decision has been made to postpone the Ryder Cup to 2021.
In 2018, Europe dominated the United States, from 17.5 to 10.5. The United States had a four-point deficit heading into the final day of this event, but couldn’t overcome Europe’s lead.
In 2016, the United States took the lead 17-11. The Americans gained just 3.5 points heading into the final matchday and managed to hang on, winning seven singles matches. Davis Love III was then the team captain and they won at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota.

The United States has now won three times since 2000. The other time came in 2008 with Paul Azinger as captain. The United States won 16.5-11.5 this time at Valhalla Golf Club in Kentucky.
