Utahns hospitalized with COVID-19 drop below 300 as vaccination rates continue to rise

For the first time since the end of October, the number of Utahn hospitalized for COVID-19 has fallen below 300, a sign that the pandemic’s grip on health resources may be easing. Utah officials also reported their third consecutive day of dispensing at least 20,000 doses of the vaccine.

Vaccinations reported the day before / total vaccinations • 22 473/512 189.

Number of Utahns who received two doses • 153,307.

Cases reported the day before • 943.

Deaths reported the day before • 5.

  • An Iron County resident, aged 65 to 84, hospitalized at the time of his death.

  • A male resident of Salt Lake County, aged 45 to 64, not hospitalized at the time of death.

  • A resident of Tooele County, aged 65 to 84, hospitalized at the time of her death.

  • A Utah County resident, between 45 and 64, hospitalized at the time of her death.

  • A man of Utah County, over 85, not hospitalized at the time of death.

Hospitalizations reported the day before • 298. That’s a drop of 14 from Friday and the first day below 300 since October 26. Of those currently hospitalized, 116 are in intensive care units – 2 fewer than Friday.

Tests reported the day before • 6,803 people were tested for the first time. A total of 18,233 people were tested on Friday.

Percentage of positive tests • Under the initial government method, the rate is 13.9%. This is slightly lower than the seven-day average of 14.4%.

His new method counts all test results, including repeated testing of the same individual. This rate is now at 5.2%, lower than the seven-day average of 6.4%.
