The Hamilton County Department of Health, in partnership with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, is advising the community of potential COVID-19 exposures at Kappa Sigma Fraternity House, located at 927 Vine Street, Chattanooga. Potential exhibits began on Saturday August 8 and continue today Saturday August 15.
Case investigations have revealed that UTC students and community members who have visited or currently reside at the fellowship home may have been and / or are currently exposed to individuals during their infectious period of COVID- 19.
The UTC COVID-19 Campus Support Team is seeking contact with students who may have been exposed. It is recommended that those who have been in contact with fellowship members since August 8 get tested and self-monitor for symptoms. Potentially exposed UTC students are encouraged to complete the COVID-19 notification form, which can be found here and / or call the campus student outreach and support office at (423) 425-2299.
Members of the UTC community are urged to respond to the communications efforts of the UTC COVID-19 Campus Support Team. Cooperation with these efforts is essential to mitigate the spread of the virus.
The Hamilton County Department of Health is working to identify and contact residents of Chattanooga and surrounding communities who may have been exposed.
“If you’ve been exposed to someone with the virus, you need to quarantine yourself for 14 days, monitor yourself for symptoms and get tested,” said Becky Barnes, administrator of the health department.
If symptoms of COVID-19 appear, do not leave your home except to visit a testing location or a healthcare professional. If symptoms worsen, seek medical attention promptly. Symptoms of COVID-19 may include fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, recent change in smell or taste, headache, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, or other symptoms recognized by the doctor. “The University is taking all necessary precautions to protect the UTC community as fall semester classes begin Monday,” said UTC chief epidemiologist Dawn Ford. “Months of planning and preparation at UTC resulted in protection for students, faculty and staff in place. “

Free Health Department COVID-19 test is available at the following locations and times:
Alstom Factory, 1125 Riverfront Parkway, Chattanooga, TN 37402:
- Sunday August 16 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
- From Monday August 17, tests at the Alstom plant are open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The Village Church, 2800 N Chamberlain Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37406 (the old church on Mount Canaan):
- Sunday August 16, 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
These sites are open to the public without appointment or referral. Free transportation is available.
