WHITE RIVER JUNCTION – The returning Hartford High alumni for the reunion set off the halftime fireworks display on Friday night. Brody Tyburski took care of the pyrotechnics on the football field.
The Hurricanes rebounded from last week’s loss to Middlebury, on a 185-yard, four-TD performance from Tyburski for a dominant 48-20 win over Brattleboro at the Alumni Sports Complex. The sophomore tripled his season TD total with Friday’s blast and now has six year-round scores.
Hartford capitalized on an early fumble from Brattleboro, turning it into points in the form of a 32-yard pass from Brayden Trombly to Brandon Potter. The Canes defense blocked a practice from the colonel at the goal line, scoring 99 yards in seven plays on the next possession, with Tyburski providing the points.
Potter increased the lead to 21-0 midway through the second period. Hartford held a 28-6 halftime lead, thanks to a 45-yard shot from Tyburski with two minutes on the clock. The Canes scored two more Tyburski TD carries (1 and 18 yards) in the second period, as well as a 22-yard dash from Ezra Mock. Devin Speno threw three touchdown passes for the Colonels.
The Canes travel to Essex on Friday.
LEBANON – As they have for most of the season, the Raiders (5-0) scored early and spent the rest of the night pulling away for another NHIAA Division II West victory at the Henry Emerton Memorial Field.
Cole Shambo allowed Lebanon to play less than three minutes into the game with a touchdown. Nyeoti Punni scored two touchdowns three minutes apart midway through the second quarter to take the lead to 20-0, and CJ Childs added to the cushion shortly before halftime as the Raiders took a 28- advantage. 0 in the break.
Jackson Stone, who connected with Punni on a scoring pass before half-time, and Shambo scored the second half for Lebanon.
The Raiders visit Bow on October 9.
WOODSTOCK – The Wasps improved to 4-1 when they crushed the Thunderbirds at James McLaughlin Field.
Woodstock is hosting Oxbow next Friday night.
PETERBOROUGH, NH – The Cardinals (2-3) rebounded from back-to-back losses to dominate the Cougars in a Division III NHIAA game. Next stop: a meeting at Barnes Park with InterLakes-Moultonborough on Friday.
LEBANON – The Raiders scored goals by five different players in Friday’s victory.
Senior Krists Putans opened the scoring in the sixth minute with an assist from senior Ryan Oliveira. Senior Griffin Auch then scored from an Oliveira corner just before half-time to put Lebanon 2-0 ahead.
In the second half, Oliveira scored, assisted by sophomore Nick Brill in the 43rd minute, followed by junior Birhanu Harriman scoring from senior Seth Carl’s pass in the 59th minute. Brill finished with a goal in the 70th minute and Oliveira got his third assist. Easton Wykes made a save for the Raiders.
Lebanon (8-1) welcomes Stevens on Saturday.
BRADFORD Vermont – The Olympians stayed close in the first half, led 2-0 at the break, but couldn’t keep up in the second half.
Sophomores Matthew Corti in midfield and Dakota Goodridge in goal both had solid games for the O.
Oxbow coach Andrew Fisher said his team played a solid first half and demonstrated discipline, but got tired in the second half with a thin bench that was missing five starters due to of injuries.
“The guys who came in played really well. In the last two games our ninth grade students have had a lot of college playing action, and that’s part of the process. We need to keep adding depth and improving our fitness and conditioning, ”said Fisher.
Oxbow (1-6) heads to Blue Mountain on Wednesday.
CANAAN WEST – The Royals improved to 5-4-0 before a visit to Monadnock on Wednesday.
NEWPORT – The Tigers remain winless with Sichol Field’s loss to the Pacers on Friday. Newport is home to the Holy Family on Monday.
HANOVER – Windham scored in the 70th minute to win the NHIAA Division 1 game at Merriman-Branch Field.
Coach Doug Kennedy praised senior Danielle Rudd’s defensive play, attributing her involvement in a number of scoring opportunities.
“(Senior) Noor van Aalst showed a great sense of purpose and determination in the midfield,” Kennedy added.
Senior Emma Kleber made three saves.
“A great game, with Hanover having the best possession and creating a number of activities but not finishing,” said Kennedy. “The DI training in Hanover is progressing, but not yet to the point of obtaining a full scholarship. “
Hanover (3-7-1) is in Londonderry on Thursday.
FAIR HAVEN, VT – Senior Hannah Reed scored her ninth and 10th goals of the season in the hotly contested game.
“Woodstock had 18 shots and came so close to leveling the game a couple of times in the closing minutes,” said coach Greg LaBella.
LaBella said goaltender Emma Tarleton made several good saves and the defense cleared several balls from the line.
“(Senior) Skylar Hayley helped keep the ball out of the net.”
Woodstock (5-1-1) hosts Burr and Burton on Thursday.
WESTMINSTER, VT – Senior Elliot Rupp scored four goals and one assist to lead the Yellow Jackets.
Rupp scored three goals in 10 minutes in the first half, and sophomore Olivia MacLeay gave Windsor a 4-1 lead at the break. MacLeay also had one assist, and rookie Audrey Rupp and senior Holly Putnam each have one goal and one assist. Sophia Rockwood made three saves for Windsor
“We played a great game tonight,” said Windsor coach Jeff Bachey. The girls really used the space given to them to create some great chances on goal. Our defense did a great job of keeping the pressure up and supporting our offensive play.
Windsor (2-6) is at Mill River on Tuesday.
SHARON – The Phoenix had some golden opportunities but couldn’t find the back of the net.
West Rutland scored the only goal of the game in the 32nd minute despite Sharon controlling most of the game.
West Rutland goalie Serena Coombs made some big saves, including one on a shot from TSA senior Brandy Lewis. Ten minutes later, rookie Iris Puchalik hit the inside post and Sharon couldn’t score the rebound. In the last minute, Sharon had another opportunity with a loose ball in front, but Coombs picked it up to deny the opportunity.
Lewis and junior Phoebe Quackenbos both had strong games for the Phoenix.
Coach Andy Ruddell said the team showed a lot of energy and fought until the last whistle.
“It was our best game of the year,” said Ruddell. “We pressed very well and held the ball in the dangerous areas. Our problem was once again to create quality chances. We just don’t have that killer instinct in front of the goal.
Sharon (1-6-0) is at home against Rivendell on Tuesday.
STOWE, VT – Stowe scored with four minutes left in the first half and again in the 67th minute. The Panthers fell to 2-5-1 and are at home against North Country on Tuesday.
Stevens 3, Autumn Mountain 1
LANGDON, NH – The Cardinals (7-2-0) claimed their fifth straight victory, toppling their great rivals. Stevens is at home against Bow on Monday.
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION – The Hurricanes improved to 5-1-0 with the home shutout.
Senior Caroline Hamilton has scored two goals, while junior Alice Piper and rookie Madi Barwood each have one goal. Assists were from sophomore Madi Willey (two), Barwood and senior Elsie Davis.
Hamilton, Willey and rookie Paige Trombley had some solid games for Hartford.
“It was an exciting game, and it’s reunion weekend, which means a lot to the girls,” said coach Heather Scudder. “The girls are coming off their best game against Bellows Falls so it was important to keep their performance level high.”
CONWAY, NH – Senior Sally Tretter scored with just over a minute left in the game to keep the Raiders undefeated.
Senior Molly Smith got an assist.
“Goalkeeper Meg Cheevers made her college debut today and she did a great job,” Lebanon coach Amanda Valliere said. “Clara Smyrski kept him in the middle and our attack worked so hard. I am very proud of all of them.
Lebanon (8-0-2) is at ConVal on Friday.
GOFFSTOWN, NH – Hanover lost one goal early, but scored three unanswered goals to go 9-0-1.
Junior Janina Li put the Marauders on the board with a corner pass from senior Mia Edmonds, which also helped senior Natalie Feyrer win the game to a 2-1 lead. Senior Gail Morse added a Maggie Higgins assisted insurance goal.
“I can’t say enough about our players leaving the bench,” Hanover coach Jean Essex said. “Caroline Healy, Eva Bell, Sadie Higgins, Eliza Sumner and Maggie Higgins all stepped up in the second half to give the team the boost they needed.”
Hanover is at home against John Stark on Wednesday.
