Major changes have been made to the development team for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, including the layoff of two key staff members.

Last week, developer Hardsuit Labs and publisher Paradox Interactive announced that the game has been delayed to 2021 and are planning organizational changes for the rest of the project.

Now, these changes have been detailed in a statement on the Bloodlines 2 website.

Lead narrative designer Brian Mitsoda – who wrote and designed the original Bloodlines – and creative director Ka’ai Cluney are no longer on the team.

The decision was “made by the management of Hardsuit Labs and Paradox Interactive”. No reason for their dismissal is given.

“The fact that this was a shock to me is to undersell it,” he said. “I worked on Bloodlines 2 for almost five years. The story and the main cast were originally designed in my living room. I helped develop the land for Hardsuit Labs and helped pitch the project to Paradox in Las Vegas. I’ve been in charge of the narrative from the start, working long days and sometimes weekends to deliver a successor to Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, and I’ve never been led to believe that I had not completed. “

He adds that he was also involved in public relations and marketing, despite the fact that the press and the crowds “trigger my social anxiety”, which “had a mental and physical impact” on the creator.

Rock Paper Shotgun observes that its name often appears prominently in marketing materials such as trailers, given its role on the original.

“I’m incredibly disappointed and frustrated to say that this is where it ends for me on the project,” Mitsoda continued. “I was not involved in the conversations that led to the decision to delay production, and to my knowledge, there was no delay caused by the narrative development of Bloodlines 2.

“It was a pleasure working on this game and with many people at Hardsuit Labs and Paradox and I’m sorry I couldn’t see it until the end.”

In their own statement, Hardsuit and Paradox said, “We appreciate and appreciate the contributions of Brian and Ka’ai, who were instrumental in setting the storyline and dark tone of the game and helped make sure that we make a true successor to the iconic bloodlines.

“We wish them the best in their future endeavors.”

Cluney’s replacement is Alexandre Mandryka, who will assume the post of creative consultant. He has over 20 years of gaming experience in the Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Warhammer 40,000 franchises.
