Gladys Berejiklian expects double vaccination rates in New South Wales to reach 70% by mid-October, signaling more freedoms for those who have rolled up their sleeves.
“70% of those who are fully immunized will be able to have a drink, a meal, go to an event,” the NSW Premier told Today.
“And I’m looking forward to it as I hope everyone is.”
When asked why students wouldn’t return to school before November, when adults might be heading to the pub weeks before, the Prime Minister said it was all about the vaccine rollout.
“The reason we did this is because the vaccine won’t be available for children aged 12 to 15 until a little later in the article,” Ms. Berejiklian said.
“But we are absolutely confident that the way we did the school rollout is safe. It gives parents some certainty. If we gave parents a date of October 18th or 7th and for some reason we wouldn’t. If we hadn’t hit that 70 percent double dose by then, it would have been heartbreaking for parents and children.
“We wanted to pick a date when we felt comfortable getting to 70 percent double dose. That’s why we picked that day.”
The start date of November would also give teachers more time to get vaccinated, she said.
