«Jusqu’à présent, personne n’a été blessé et rien n’indique qu’une arme a été utilisée», a déclaré le porte-parole, Andy Jenks.
Les responsables de l’école envisagent de renvoyer les étudiants «de la même manière qu’ils sont arrivés ici, ce qui voudrait dire dans leur bus ou peut-être dans une voiture», a ajouté Jenks dans son communiqué.
Une zone de regroupement familial a été mise en place pour permettre aux étudiants de retrouver leurs proches.
Le district scolaire a ensuite confirmé qu'il avait reçu le feu vert des officiers.
"La police de Henrico nous a donné le feu vert", a-t-il déclaré sur Twitter. "La police a inspecté l’ensemble du campus et est allée de porte en porte. Les enquêteurs nous disent qu’aucune arme n’a été tirée, que personne n’a été blessé, leur enquête se poursuit, mais pour le moment, il est temps que les étudiants rentrent chez eux."
