It remains to be seen how much Jonathan Kuminga, 18, the Golden State Warriors’ first pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft, will contribute as a rookie. However, he has one thing that works for him: Draymond Green is a fan of him.

The three-time All-Star was said to have been in contact with general manager Bob Myers shortly after the start of the first round and argued for G League swingman Ignite as loud and clear as he could via text message.

Kuminga, or KUMINGA as it will likely be known by now, should be a longer term project for the Warriors. He has the tools to become a great player, but still needs advice on how to properly use those tools. His selection raised eyebrows with analysts and fans alike who expected the Dubs to work more immediately to end their long nightmare of two full seasons without playoff basketball, but this cosign of Green – the vocal leader undisputed team – is a welcome development. Mostly because there had been previous reports that veteran Dubs preferred the team to trade their picks for another veteran player.

G League’s 18-year-old Kuminga was one of the Warriors’ two first-round picks on Thursday. The other was Moses Moody, who was selected with the No. 14 pick.
