Washington sheriff’s deputy shot dead, two suspects in custody

Two suspects are in custody after a Washington state sheriff’s deputy was fatally shot Friday night.

Clark County Sheriff’s Office identified the deputy Saturday as Jeremy Brown, a 15-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office. He was appointed a detective.

The major crimes unit of the Vancouver Police Department’s Major Crimes Department is investigating the shooting, the office said.

In one separate declaration, the Vancouver Police Department said two people of interest had been detained by police and law enforcement was “actively looking” for a third person. Several people fled the scene, police said.

The shooting happened at around 7 p.m. on Friday at an apartment complex, according to local reports. KGW, a subsidiary of NBC.

Sgt. Brent Waddell of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office told reporters the deputy was taken to a local hospital and died around 11:30 p.m. No details were provided on what led to the shooting, KGW reported.

The sheriff’s office first confirmed that a deputy was killed on Friday, say in a statement: “These are difficult times for the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement agencies in Clark County and surrounding Clark County, in the Portland metro area.”

The Vancouver Police Department expressed condolences on Twitter.
