SEATTLE – Washington state health officials have said the number of people hospitalized for treatment for the coronavirus has reached an all-time high.

KOMO-TV reports that 762 people were receiving hospital treatment for the virus in Washington on Saturday.

At the Swedish First Hill campus of the Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, 10 coronavirus patients were admitted within five hours on Wednesday.

Executives from hospitals across the state gathered last week to consider strategies to ensure they have enough space to care for patients with COVID-19 as the hospitalization rate soars.

Washington State Hospital Association CEO Cassie Sauer said cancellations of elective procedures being considered to make room for coronavirus patients include joint and heart valve replacements and some cancer surgeries.

The number of people in Oregon hospitals with confirmed cases of COVID-19 stood at 412 as of Friday, more than double the number at the start of November.
