Watch a green fireball crossing the sky | Securities

A big green meteor crossed the sky Tuesday night and Steve Chazin captured it on a video of his dashboard traveling along the US 50 territory in Fairfax County.

"From our point of view, it seemed like he was going to land in DC," wrote Chazin in a message posted on Twitter. "The horizon was very low, but I realized it was a meteor, which meant we were just hitting the air. It had to be far off.

The fireball was seen from Connecticut in North Carolina shortly before 11 pm The American Meteor Society had received more than 100 reports in early Wednesday. Most observers reported that the fireball was green and shiny.

The meteor was most widely observed in the BC region. And along the coast, from Cape May (New Jersey) to Corolla (North Carolina).

According to the meteor society, fireballs are very bright meteors, about as bright as Venus in the morning and evening sky.

About 10 to 15 meteorites fall each day to Earth, but sightings are rare because rifled fireballs often fall over the ocean or during the day when they can not be seen.
