Governor John Bel Edwards is expected to share the latest update on the coronavirus vaccine deployment in Louisiana at a press conference on Tuesday.
An email sent to independent pharmacies Monday night obtained by The Advocate says Edwards and other Louisiana officials are expected to announce a major expansion in vaccine eligibility.

The new criteria indicate that the new eligibility group would include adults of all ages who meet specific criteria that put them at increased risk of serious illness from the novel coronavirus.
Vaccines are expected to be available for the new eligibility group immediately after Edwards’ official announcement.
Among those who would be eligible for the vaccine, according to the email, are people 16 years and older for the Pfizer vaccine or 18 years and older for the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines with the following conditions:
- moderate to severe asthma
- cerebrovascular disease
- cystic fibrosis
- hypertension or high blood pressure
- immunodeficiency condition due to a blood or bone marrow transplant, immune deficiencies, HIV, the use of corticosteroids or the use of other weakening drugs
- neurological conditions, such as dementia
- liver disease
- Overweight
- pulmonary fibrosis
- thalassemia
- type 1 diabetes mellitus
The vaccines would also be available to anyone in the same age group who works in a collective living center, such as a prison, shelter or group home, according to the email.
“We know people want to get vaccinated so they can start doing the things they love with the people they love again.”
