Julian Edelman was once a wide-eyed rookie at the New England Patriots' mini-camp, charged with being more of a sponge than a useful football player. The advice and tutelage he has received has no doubt played a role in the fact that the former college quarterback became one of the most productive players in the NFL.
Now, the 33-year-old is paying him ahead.
Before the start of the Patriots minicamp, Edelman was working in the off-season with receiver N'Keal Harry, selected by the Patriots in the first round of the NFL draft in 2019. And when minicamp debuted last week, Edelman continued to coach the product of 21 years, Arizona State.
ESPN's Mike Reiss saw Edelman lead Harry first hand Thursday morning. He recounted what he saw in an article published late Saturday night and even offered a video of the practice.
"The video does more justice than any word, but Harry was on a dead end – he was running in the middle of the field, planting his left foot at about 12 meters and exploding out of his break. .
"At his first rehearsal, Harry took a few abrupt steps before planting his left foot. Edelman approached Harry to review the finer points of the road, before Harry went back on the line to do it again, with Edelman watching him closely.
"The result was better and Harry received a positive reinforcement from quarterback Tom Brady for improvement."

Hey, Edelman and Brady certainly have worse guardians to have for a young catcher.
The Patriots will hold their off-season training on Monday and Tuesday before pausing until the end of July, when the training camp begins.
