Before leaving the contest, Fitzpatrick was silent in his Washington debut. He threw three assists in six attempts for just 13 yards. He also ran the ball once for two yards.
With Fitzpatrick heading to the locker room, backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke steps into the game under center.
It’s a familiar feeling for the 28-year-old.
Heinicke was also relieved in his last appearance for the WFT in January in the NFL Wild Card game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. During the game, he threw 26 completed passes on 44 attempts, 306 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Heinicke also ran six times for 46 yards and a touchdown.
Heinicke finished the race for Washington with two incompleteness that led to Tress Way’s second punt of the afternoon.
At the time of publication, it is not known if Fitzpatrick will return to the game. But for now, Heinicke is in quarterback.
We will continue to update this developing story.
