We had trouble developing Fallout 76; It is actually very well sold, we have great things planned

During the live broadcast of yesterday's Bethesda Game Days, airing from PAX East 2019, Bethesda Game Studios hosted a panel dedicated to Fallout 76.

Todd Howard, executive producer of the game, explained that the development of the game was very difficult (it was the first online game created by BGS, after all). Nevertheless, the game is very well sold and major content update projects are planned in the coming years.

For us, Fallout 76 is a very new thing for our studio. We knew we were going to have a lot of bumps with the game, and we certainly had some, some much more difficult than we expected. It was a very new and different project for us. We are still doing other more traditional things, as I would call them, Bethesda games.

But this one, to be honest, we had a lot of difficulties during the development and these difficulties appear sometimes on the screen. You never want it. We developed the studio. We now have four different studios in North America, one in Rockville, Austin, Dallas and Montreal. This game really gathered a crowd of people in these four studios to work. And we knew that the launch was going to be just the beginning. We are really happy that the game went really well.

We have a lot of millions of players, an excellent base of players in this game, we receive a lot of comments. Our goal is to build a kind of Fallout platform. We have tons of ideas, it's a crazy trip so far and we're excited, we have a ton of cool content to come.

Of course, developers have also talked more concretely about what will happen soon. The next high-level Vault raids, scheduled to take place this summer with the Nuclear Winter series of updates, have been confirmed as instanciated and intended to be completed by a group of four players.

Earlier, the legendary supplier of 'Purveyor' (whose live server release is scheduled for May 23) will allow players to break down the legendary gear to customize or relaunch statistics. On the other hand, the series of Wastelanders updates will radically change the game, according to Todd Howard, when released in the fall.

On the horizon, developers would also like to add a way for CAMPS to persist even when your character disconnects from the game, although engineering issues need to be solved first in order to introduce such a feature.

Bethesda also posted an article on his blog two days ago on the next update (Patch 8), mainly a brand new quest series.
