Last week, reports were reported that lawyer Bob Costello, a longtime friend of Donald Trump's lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, had contacted former president Michael Cohen's fixer. Not so, says Costello.
In an email to the Daily Beast, Costello said that he was not referring to Trump's forgiveness when he talked about sleeping well at night. Instead, he was referring to a song by music star Garth Brooks in order to comfort a "suicidal" Cohen. And, he added, some documents could confirm it.
"To repeat myself, Michael Cohen and his counsel interpret the events in a totally absurd way," said Costello. Costello went on to state: "Michael Cohen and / or his lawyer selectively let out e-mail copies to reinforce the false story that they had initially tried to peddle in the media last week. We have documents in support of our position and we are preparing to provide them to the US Attorney's Office, which has requested them. "
Lanny Davis, Cohen's legal advisor, did not immediately respond to a request for comment on this story.
Garth Brooks' defense marks a new escalation of an extended back and forth between Cohen and Trump's camps regarding the question of whether a pardon was granted. It is a dispute that has serious consequences, especially if the president and his team have tried to obstruct justice or if Cohen lied about it in Congress.
Last week, Giuliani told The Daily Beast that his friend Costello was probably going to save his version of events.

Costello, as Giuliani told it last week, then told Giuliani that "Cohen was really upset" after Costello had announced the news last year.
