What to expect for the week of October 12, 2021
- Drainage installation continued along Main Street
- MassDOT investigation teams will continue to locate the limits of easements in the corridor

Lumber Street Paving Notice
In preparation for the Boston Marathon on Monday October 11, no work from the Main Street Corridor Project is scheduled for October 6, 7 and 8. The remaining drainage work has been suspended and will resume after the marathon.

BOSTON MARATHON ROUTE CLOSURE UPDATE: Public Notice
October 11, 2021 at 6:30 a.m. all roads leading to the city center will be closed for general travel. This will be done to create a safe and efficient area for everyone involved in the 125th Boston Marathon. This year will be consistent with previous years. The main roads leading to the city center will be blocked at the following locations:
I. West Main Street to Lumber Street
ii. Wood Street to Elm Street
iii. Hayden Rowe Street in Chestnut
iv. Ash Street to Blueberry Lane
v. Cedar Street at Legacy Farms North
vi. East Main Street at every intersection
vii. In addition to these locations, all roads adjacent to roads where
runners, spectators, volunteers and workers will be blocked.
Community Advisory: 2021 Boston Marathon
The Boston Athletic Association (BAA) has partnered with Commonwealth health professionals, the Hopkinton Health and Public Safety Departments, and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) to develop a layered COVID-19 policy which protected the participants, the volunteers of the race, the inhabitants and the spectators.

The town of Hopkinton is delighted to welcome runners, spectators, supporters, volunteers and staff of the 2021 Boston Marathon to Hopkinton for the first time in two years, and for the first time amidst the beautiful foliage of New England fall.
Monday morning, 125th Boston Marathon will return to its traditional starting line in the small and welcoming community 26.2 miles from Boston. The Town of Hopkinton, the Board of Directors, General Manager Norman Khumalo and city employees are all delighted to welcome the return of one of America’s greatest sporting events.
Hopkinton Marathon Committee selects Bill Miller as starter for 125th Boston Marathon
The Hopkinton Marathon Committee (HMC) has selected a starter for the 9:00 a.m. start of the 125th Boston Marathon. The Boston Athletic Association has given the HMC the honor of starting the final waves of the Boston Marathon since 2006, when the race first introduced the wave start. This year, with a rolling start rather than waves, only one starter position was available. The HMC has selected Hopkinton Fire Chief Bill Miller to fill this role.
Unveiling of “The Girl Who Ran” in commemoration of a milestone in the history of women’s running
Bobbi Gibb, the first woman to complete the Boston Marathon as an unregistered runner in 1966, delivers remarks after the unveiling of her bronze sculpture, “The Girl Who Ran” at the Hopkinton Center For the Arts on October 5 2021. artist as well as runner, Gibb created the piece herself. The statue will be installed on Main Street and Hayden Rowe near the start line of the marathon.

Vacancies on the Board and Committees – Update

Study to collect data on possible regionalization of local emergency dispatch services
Southborough took another step forward by exploring the possibility of regionalizing its public safety dispatch services on October 5.
The study, which will run over six months, will gather data on the feasibility of establishing or adhering to a regional emergency communication center. Possible collaborative communities are Hopkinton, Hudson, Grafton, Marlborough, Westborough and Southborough, according to Southborough City Administrator Mark Purple.
State 911 funds will be used to cover the study at no cost to the cities.
School committee not ready to vote on quashing mask mandate at HHS
Superintendent Carol Cavanaugh described the updated Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) mask policy. She explained that if an individual school has an immunization rate greater than 80% among staff and students, those fully immunized might be given the option to remove their masks if approved by that district’s school committee. This policy is called the “exit ramp”.
