Weight loss: why craft beer is one of the worst types of alcohol that alcohol consumes

Dieting requires careful thought and it is essential to avoid foods and beverages that could affect your progress. Alcohol is a difficult area for many dieters and people often do not realize the number of calories that alcohol contains. There is one type of alcoholic drink that those looking to lose weight should avoid. Dietitian Georgie Fear, author of Lean Habits for Lifetime Weight Loss, recommends avoiding highly alcoholic craft beers.

"Over the last five years, craft breweries have experienced an explosion of creating high-alcohol varieties that pack more calories per bottle than you thought," Fear told GQ.

Beer drinkers with high alcohol content could consume as many calories per beer as per meal.

For example, Flying Dog Horn Dog contains 10.2% alcohol by volume and 314 calories per bottle.

Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA contains 18% alcohol by volume, making a total of 450 calories in each bottle.

Fortunately, this is not bad news for those who love beer but do not want to accumulate too many calories.

Many brands of alcoholic beverages are embarking on health drinks, such as Lagunitas Brewing Company, which recently launched DayTime IPA Session.

This beer is a reimagination of Lagunitas Classic 4.25% DayTime fractionated IPA.

At 4% ABV, Daytime is ideal for regulars of light beers but eager to embark on the world of craftsmanship.

Genna Burchell, Managing Director of Marketing for the United Kingdom at Lagunitas, told Express.co.uk: "In the fast-paced world of deadlines and uncontrollable lists, you sometimes want to take a moment for yourself and maybe even sir before going back to mania.

"DayTime was created in this spirit, with only 4% alcohol and fewer calories.

"Light in the things that weigh you, yet sharp and forward, it's a beer that was built for the day."

Nowadays, there are a lot of light beers on the markets. Beck's Premier Light is one of the least caloric beers with only 64 calories per bottle.

The Michelob Ultra is the original beer with low carbohydrates. It contains 4.2% alcohol and 95 calories.

Amstel Light contains only 95 calories and a low alcohol content of 3.5%.

Heineken Light, Sam Adams Light Lager, Coors Light and Corona Light are among the other brewers to discover.

Those who follow a diet should also avoid frozen alcoholic beverages because they are full of sugar.

"Do not drink an icy drink if you're watching your weight," said Keri Gans, R.D., author of The Small Change Diet, at Women's Health.

A survey of Finder.com found that two-thirds of Britons have no idea how many calories are in regular alcoholic beverages.
