Although Cara Delevingne does not know if being openly homosexual has influenced her acting career in a sustainable way, she says she does not think it helped her in her debut. His testimony: the rude homophobic comments that Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood mogul, allegedly told him well before he tried to make her kiss another actress in front of him.
This is one of the few vulnerable subjects that Delevingne mentioned in an interview with Net-a-Porter, in which she tackles everything from the feeling of not being heard as a supermodel to the definition of her sexuality. "Fuck, I hate that," she says about this last topic, before talking more broadly about her queer woman experience in the industry and telling the anecdote about Weinstein, who she said was one of his first interactions with him.
"One of the first things Harvey Weinstein ever told me was," You will never succeed in this industry as a homosexual woman – take a beard, "she says. She also claims that when she began auditioning for on-screen roles, Weinstein would have named famous women and asked her if she had ever slept with them. "I was just thinking: it's insane," says Delevingne.
Obviously, Weinstein's prediction did not hold. It's undeniable that female homosexual celebrities still face homophobia – just last week, Kristen Stewart spoke about an unnamed Hollywood personality who had warned her not to take her girlfriend's hand in public. Delevingne has objectively seen a great success in his career. She is currently promoting Carnival Row, the new Amazon Prime show in which she appears alongside Orlando Bloom. At the same time, she has also become an ardent supporter of LGBTQ youth and has a happy and engaged relationship with Ashley Benson. Although the couple has kept many details secret about their relationship, Delevingne is not afraid to say how much she loves his girlfriend.
"I've never really trusted people, nor did I feel worthy of it, and I've always pushed them back," she told Net-a-Porter. "[Benson is] the first person who said, "You can not push me away. I will be nice to you, I love you. I'm like, wait, so all I have to do is be nice to me? Why have not I ever done this before?
