Meet the new faculty joining St. Paul’s Academy and Summit School Elementary School on the Goodrich Campus!

Jake Ban, Deputy Director: Jake is the new assistant principal of the lower school and recently completed a one-year principal’s internship at Maria L. Baldwin Elementary School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He has spent the past ten years teaching Grades 3 through 5, both at Aspire East Palo Alto Charter School in East Palo Alto, California, and most recently at San Francisco Friends School. Beth Nelson says, “Her warmth, humor and positive attitude will resonate with students and adults in our community! “

Sarah Dobesh, class of class 1/2: Sarah joins the primary school team as a primary school teacher of 1/2 and comes to SPA after spending the last four years teaching at St. Hubert School in Chanhassen. Sarah received her BA in Elementary Education from the College of St. Benedict & St. John’s University and is currently completing her Masters of Education at St. Mary’s University.

Tamara Dominguez, Spanish: Tamara comes to SPA from the Twin Cities German Immersion School, where she taught Spanish. Tamara graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Spanish Language Diploma and holds a certification from the Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examination for Spanish K-12. “Her energy, perseverance and passion for the language and culture make her an excellent choice for this position,” says Nelson.

Tristan Gavin, Learning specialist: For the past four years, Tristan has brought thoughtfulness and care to the child in his work, as a learning specialist at the Bertschi School in Seattle, Washington. Tristan holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Whitman College and MA in Elementary Education and Teaching from Relay Graduate School of Education.

Drew Lundquist, Class 1/2 Class: Drew should be a household name in the upper school community as he coached varsity volleyball last season, but he is new to lower school. Prior to SPA, Drew was a grade 3 and 4 teacher at Journey School in St. Paul. He graduated from the University of Minnesota-Morris in Elementary Education and is currently pursuing a Masters in Educational Leadership at Concordia University.

Anna Ruhland, Kindergarten (KA): Anna has been a trusted teaching assistant, substitute teacher and Adventure Kids staff member over the years and will transition to her new role as a teacher at KA this year. Anna’s proven ability to guide elementary school students through their academic and socio-emotional development makes her an ideal person. Anna received her BA in Art History with a Minor in Women’s Studies from St. Catherine’s University.

Meg Tietz, Music and movement: Meg arrives at SPA after teaching stoppages in Texas and Maryland. Meg completed her master’s degree with a concentration in Orff Schulwerk at the University of St. Thomas. Beth Nelson says, “Meg’s vast experience and knowledge as well as her passion for teaching children make her an ideal fit for SPA and our primary school! “
