The WellMed hotline for COVID-19 vaccinations will reopen on Saturday to schedule 9,000 additional appointments.

The additional doses were assigned to the two WellMed sites on the south and west sides by the Texas State Department health departments. The hotline, which can be reached at 833-968-1745, will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily until the time slots are filled to register residents to receive the Moderna vaccine.

Appointments are required and will be available for Elvira Cisneros Senior Community Center and Alicia Trevino Lopez Senior Single Center.

The Alamodome has also received an additional 9,000 doses and will begin scheduling appointments on an ongoing basis, so as not to overwhelm the system. About two thousand slots for Monday will open on Friday, another 2,000 for Tuesday will open on Saturday and so on. Registration will be available online here or by calling 311 and selecting option 8.

People currently eligible to receive the vaccine are healthcare workers, anyone 65 and over, or adults 18 and over with chronic health conditions, according to state guidelines.

WellMed’s appointment system takes place entirely by telephone. WellMedi requires the patience and perseverance of the public to request an appointment. The hotline has received more than 7.9 million calls since Jan. 9, for the site’s first round of mass immunizations, according to a press release. Callers will know if the line is overloaded if they hear “The line you are trying to reach is out of service” or “All circuits are busy. Please try your call later.”

In Bexar County, 52,910 were partially vaccinated, which means they received the first injection and are waiting for the second. Another 12,105 of San Antonio’s 1,541,803 have completed the process and are fully vaccinated, according to the San Antonio Express-News Vaccine Tracker.
