COUNTY BAY, FL. (WJHG / WECP) – A human case of West Nile virus has been confirmed in Bay County.

This is the first human case of the virus in Bay County in 2019.

The Florida Department of Health is strengthening its advice on mosquito-borne diseases. They say that people with West Nile will generally not feel sick, but if they do, fever, headache, pain and fatigue are some of the symptoms.

Symptoms usually appear between two and 14 days after the bite of an infected mosquito.

People over 60 and those with weakened immune systems have an increased risk of contracting a serious illness.
